The PTA and our Central School children need your help for a few remaining committees. There are three Chair positions open at this time. The PTA Board would like to fill these remaining positions before the start of the school year. Please review the following descriptions for more information, or use the links on the website to see previous posts made in each category.

If you have any questions or are interested in participating as a chair person for one of the following committees, please contact Mary Ellen Meindl (marrymelon@sbcglobal.net), Jeannine Glavas (jmcowell92@aol.com) or Linda LaBelle (rllabelle@aol.com).

Reflections
In the fall and spring, promote student participation in the National PTA Reflections fine arts program. Duties include collecting entries, securing any judges needed and passing Central students work on to the next level. In the spring, the committee recognizes the participants during award day. Additional Reflections program information is provided by the National PTA in the fall.

Halloween Windows
This is a combined program with other District 96 elementary schools in downtown Riverside. Blythe Park is the overall school coordinator for the Halloween Windows program for 07/08.

Central School needs a chair person to help coordinate the Central participants and to provide some support to Blythe Park which might include taping windows and assigning windows for children to paint.

Book Fair
This is a good committee for “Co-Chairs”. This is a very important Committee and program for our Central School Children. This program promotes reading, community service and supports our children through a significant donation of books, supplies and education materials for the classrooms due to everyone’s support and book purchases.

The Chair or Co-Chair is responsible for working with Scholastic books and many volunteers to organize and coordinate the book fair to be held in April 2008. Additional details are available if necessary from past co-chairs.

Please review the above committees and volunteer to help Central School. Thank you in advance for your support.

Linda LaBelle
Central PTA President

You can download the original information as a PDF or Microsoft Word Document.

Each year the PTA sponsors the Reflections Program. This program encourages children to express themselves through visual arts, literature, music, and photography. Participants will be recognized locally, and may advance to be recognized at district, state, and/or national levels.

This year’s Reflection’s theme is:
“My Favorite Place.”

Think about your favorite place and what it means to you. Then select a category:

* Musical Composition * Literature * Visual Arts * Photography *

Express your thought and creativity, and earn recognition!

If your child wishes to participate, original work reflecting this theme should follow the attached rules and be submitted to the Central School office no later than Monday, November 27th with a completed entry form. Detailed rules for each category are found in the school office.

So ask you children where their favorite place ——— and see what they create!!

REFLECTIONS REMINDER

Each year the PTA sponsors the Reflections Program. This is a national program that encourages children to express themselves through visual arts, literature, music, and photography.

Any Central child wishing to participate may submit artwork reflecting this year’s theme, “I Wonder Why…” All artwork should be turned in to the school office by November 22, 2005 along with a completed entry form. Entry forms were included in the information packet that went home in backpacks. Extra entry forms and complete state rules are available in the literature rack in the office.

Please read through the rules for the category (or categories) your child would like to enter. Nothing is more disappointing than not to be able to send a wonderful piece of art on to the next level because it is the wrong size or does not comply with some other rule. Everything you need to know is available from the National PTA website if you have the password. The password was sent home attached to the School Directory, on a card stapled to the top of the front cover. It’s REALLY tiny, right on the bottom.

If you don’t want to go through all that, we also have copies of the documents here available for download:

Rules by art area in PDF or Word format.
Student rules in PDF or Word format.

All students submitting artwork from Central School will be recognized at the annual awards assembly at the end of the year, and, if space and time permit, will have their artwork on display here at the school, or with the state’s touring exhibit.

If you or your child have questions about the PTA Reflections program, please contact Lisa Aulerich-Marciniak. E-mail aulerich@umich.edu (please use PTA Reflections in the subject line) or call xxx-xxxx. (see directory for phone number)
