If so, your child’s used book can make a difference!

We are accepting donations of used anthologies in an effort to facilitate even greater student participation next year. We recognize that some children have younger siblings who want to participate in the Flying Carpet Club and that others simply want to hold on to and refer back to these amazing stories – and that’s great! But if you were planning on recycling the book, the next time you are in the Central School Office just drop it in the box labeled “Jr. Great Books/Flying Carpet Club.” It’s an easy way to make a difference.

If you or your child are interested in the Junior Great Books / Flying Carpet club, you have until Friday September 21 to return your survey response. If you cannot find your paper survey to complete and return, you can take the online survey here and be done in less than five minutes.

Flying Carpet Club - Junior Great Books Interest Survey

Central School PTA is introducing an exciting lunchtime literary program for 2008 … The Flying Carpet Club!

The Flying Carpet Club will meet once a week, for 10 weeks (week of January 14 — week of March 17), to engage participating children in developing their inquisitive abilities through short stories from the Junior Great Books anthologies.

During the lunch/recess meetings, volunteers trained in encouraging text-based discussion will assist small groups of children in sharing their ideas about classic tales from around the world. Flying Carpet Club members are to read the relevant story at home (or have had it read to them, if necessary) to prepare for their Club meetings. Ask your children if they would enjoy this kind of reading adventure!

(There will be a fee of approximately $17 per student to cover the cost of the anthologies.)*

Our ability to offer the program in each grade level is directly dependent upon both student interest and volunteer commitment. Please help by completing this survey and returning it to the PTA mailbox in the Office (attn: Aberdeen Ozga) - or by completing this online survey by Friday, September 21. You need only complete one version, either online or on paper.
