PTA MEETING MINUTES for Tuesday, September 5th, 2006
Introduction
At 9:08 a.m. the meeting commenced in the Central School Library.
Attending PTA Board members: Nancy Hopkins, Lisa Aulerich-Marciniak, Allyn Pilewski, Maddalena Flight, Mary Judy, Sue Miller, Cathy Louthen, Rick LaBelle, Kathy Dudek, Lisa Veon, Michelle Hejna.
Guests in Attendance: Dr. Janice Limperis, Dr. Jonathan Lamberson
Minutes from June 6th, 2006 meeting were read and approved.
PTA President Nancy Hopkins thanked the following PTA volunteers who worked over the summer:

Michelle Hejna - hosted the Room Parent meeting
1st VP Membership: Lisa Aulerich-Marciniak and Allyn Pilewski - 172 families have registered as members of the PTA.
Treasurers Report: Rick LaBelle submitted the Audit of 2005-2006 Budget and the proposed 2006-2007 budget. Both were approved
Superintendent’s Report: Dr. Jonathan Lamberson reported on the increase of District 96 enrollment for the 2006-2007 school year. Increase of 50 students higher than anticipated. A demographic study and projections of enrollment are currently under review.
Principal’s Report: Dr. Janice Limperis reported. Thank you from the teachers for the Teacher’s classroom stipend of $100.00 each for the reimbursement of supplies. Reminder of curbside roll along drop off. Plenty of parking on other side of street if you must get out of car. Central is in the process of clearing out the Multi-Purpose Room for safety and to make room for the Guided Reading Program. Picture day is September 6th. Fall Parent Night will be September 7th, The first early release day will be September 12th. The teachers will have a Technology Seminar on that date. There are (9) 5th grade students coming to Central for Advanced Math. Dr. Limperis introduced Dr. Mary Polk, the District 96 Special Services Coordinator. The Music Faculty Recital will be held Sept. 20
Committee Reports
Fall Family Night: Kathy Dudek and Jennifer Sedivy reported that on Friday, September 22nd the Fall Family Night will consist of hot dog dinners from Heavenly Hot Dogs and donated baked goods from committee members; a magician will provide the entertainment. Asked for a budget of $600.00, budget was approved
Playground: Lisa Vais and Lisa Veon - A dedication ceremony will be set at a later date
Cultural Arts: Ingrid Lulich and Dorie Skiest - An organizational meeting will be held in the Central Conference Room on September 15 at 9:00. Volunteers or any one interested on being on the committee to come to the meeting This committee allows parents, grandparents, and other family members to come into the classroom and introduce the students to an artist.
Library: Dawneen Suriano and Mary Potts - Library Helpers will help reshelve books and repair old jackets and Ruth Julian will do the check out. K-2 helpers can read stories to the class. A volunteer meeting will be on Monday September 18th at 8:30 a.m.
Artist in Residence: Dawn Gmitro has been in the process of gathering information on possible programs and funding.
Halloween Play: Dawn Gmitro and Kim Jacobs will be organizing the much-anticipated play.
Fundraisers
Wrapping Paper: Maddalena Flight- The wrapping paper sale will start on 9/8 and continue through 9/22 The wrapping paper can be ordered year round and can be ordered on-line. Packets will be sent home via backpack.
Market Day: Sue Miller and Mary Judy - First Market Day pickup date will be September 28, Market Day will be on Thursdays between 3:00-4:00 pm.(rather than Wednesday mornings). Central School’s Goal for 2006-7 is to earn $3,146. At Parent Open House a Market Day representative will be there with samples from the product line. Last year we won a chest freezer and will be auctioning it off at the Family Fall Night.
BoxTops and Labels: Michelle Hruska will be collecting Campbell soup labels and box tops. Please send them in.
Pop tops: Linda Roberto offered to collect pop-tops. The pull-tabs will generate extra funds for school. No decision was made.
Note cards: Anne Kodama will be handling the Kids Art Cards Orders. She will send home extra blank sheets for children at home to complete.
Cell phone and Ink cartridge recycling: Chris Hajer - There will be a box set up in school for the collection of cell phones Ink cartridges. This will generate funds for school.
Carson Pirie Scott Day: November 11th
Website: Chris Hajer- is up and running he passed out a sheet on procedures to post.
Wellness: Holly Machina has been working on a Wellness Policy Pilot Program.
Other Business: Spirit Wear Sales will be coming up in October.
Sept 28th will be the Report from the Middle School Study group to Parents at Hauser 7:00pm
