Thanks to all the talented artists who transformed Riverside’s central business district with their Halloween masterpieces! We hope everyone enjoyed creating their paintings as much as the town enjoys viewing them.

Each year we increasingly rely on volunteers to support the growing number of participants. Without the help of our generous Central volunteers, this project wouldn’t have been possible. We would like to thank Diane Chaney, Sheri Coffman, Kate Pennington, Jenny Straka and Amy Wolff for helping us coordinate business participation and tape windows.

With thanks,

Janan Cain and Karen Doornebos

REFLECTIONS REMINDER

Each year the PTA sponsors the Reflections Program. This is a national program that encourages children to express themselves through visual arts, literature, music, and photography.

Any Central child wishing to participate may submit artwork reflecting this year’s theme, “I Wonder Why…” All artwork should be turned in to the school office by November 22, 2005 along with a completed entry form. Entry forms were included in the information packet that went home in backpacks. Extra entry forms and complete state rules are available in the literature rack in the office.

Please read through the rules for the category (or categories) your child would like to enter. Nothing is more disappointing than not to be able to send a wonderful piece of art on to the next level because it is the wrong size or does not comply with some other rule. Everything you need to know is available from the National PTA website if you have the password. The password was sent home attached to the School Directory, on a card stapled to the top of the front cover. It’s REALLY tiny, right on the bottom.

If you don’t want to go through all that, we also have copies of the documents here available for download:

Rules by art area in PDF or Word format.
Student rules in PDF or Word format.

All students submitting artwork from Central School will be recognized at the annual awards assembly at the end of the year, and, if space and time permit, will have their artwork on display here at the school, or with the state’s touring exhibit.

If you or your child have questions about the PTA Reflections program, please contact Lisa Aulerich-Marciniak. E-mail aulerich@umich.edu (please use PTA Reflections in the subject line) or call xxx-xxxx. (see directory for phone number)

The Central School Talent Show will be held on Wednesday, May 24th from 1:00-3:05 PM and Thursday, May 25th from 7:00 PM- 8:30 PM in the Hauser Auditorium. This Talent Show is open to students in grades K-5. Talent Show audition forms will go home the week of February 27, 2006. The Talent Show Audition forms will be due on Thursday, March 9th. Late forms will not be accepted.

A Talent Show Screening will be held in March. There will be a Talent Show Dress Rehearsal on Monday, May 15th from 3:05-5:00PM and Tuesday, May 16th from 3:05-5:00 PM in the Hauser Auditorium.

I need parent volunteers to assist with:

  • putting together the Talent Show Program
  • collecting and organizing audition forms for the Talent Show Screening
  • creating a schedule for the Talent Show Screening
  • creating and sending out audition try out reminder slips to all of the students auditioning
  • the sound system
  • the dress rehearsals
  • a couple of parents to help the announcers compose their introductions and practice
  • and a parent to make sure performing students get to me behind stage the day and night of the Talent Show

Parents interested in volunteering to help with the Central Talent Show can e-mail me at lieggic@district96.org or call me at home 708-xxx-xxxx (see Central School Directory for phone number.)

UPDATE: 2/18/06 The Accelerated Reader lists are also available online. This information was published before the online access was enabled. The following paragraphs are now old information.

The Accelerated Reader quiz list is now available online. It is currently available for download as an Excel spreadsheet or as a PDF. Please note: the Excel spreadsheet is 724KB and the PDF is 412KB (and 90 pages!), which means downloading either will take a long time. I would not recommend downloading either version unless you have a broadband connection (DSL or cable) or a lot of free time.

The PDF cannot be sorted or edited, so if you have Microsoft Excel, I would recommend downloading the Excel spreadsheet rather than the PDF. Either one can be searched.

- OR -

wait a couple more days and the data will be available online with a variety of options for displaying and sorting it. If you have a request, please post a comment on this article below. For example, if you’d like to be able to sort the list by author, then reading level, please post a comment to that effect. If you want to be able to see all books with a reading level between 4.0 and 5.0, we can do that too. Just post a comment with your request. All comments are moderated, which means it won’t be published on the site until it is approved by someone.

p.s. Please thank Mrs. Loulousis for getting us this information when you see her.
